In this post, I am going to give you 10 of the most powerful Bible Verses about overcoming adversity.  So many of us Christians think that because we are Christian that we are exempt from experiencing any kind of hardship.

But God does not promise that we are exempt from pain and adversity will come. I know what you may be thinking, that if we are going to have adversity anyway then what is the point of being a Christian?

I can do bad all by myself I do not need God to do bad with me? Thinking this way is a very baby Christian mentality, which is EXACTLY why I am going to give you these 10 amazing Bible verses about overcoming adversity. So you can understand who God is and how can He helps you through your adversity.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #1

We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9

In the end no matter what you are going through, no matter what someone has done to you, and no matter how you think that you will not make it through your current season of life, you WILL.

You will fall down, perhaps someone will push you down, beat you down, but unless they kill you, you will get back up.

You have the ability to get up and not let whatever knocked you down keep you there.

So do not think that your adversity will destroy you, it won’t. It may have injured you, but you are still alive, and you can still get up and move past this.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #2

Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:4-6

We are people and we do not have the power of God. We do not know the reason why we are going through what we are going through. We do not have the ability to look into tomorrow and we do not really know what God is doing up there with our lives.

BUT you have to trust God and know that all things will work together for the greater good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.

You don’t have to understand what God is doing but you should trust what God is doing. And if you trust what God is doing, then you will not be worried about whatever comes your way.

We tend to get mad with God because we do not like what we are going through, we feel like God can stop what we are going through but won’t, and because we do not know when or how it will end we start getting frustrated with God.

But that is where faith and trust come in.  Do not depend on your own understanding of the situation, trust God, and trust that He knows what he is doing. Check out my blog on being mad at God.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #3

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:10

I know suffering is the LAST word anyone wants to hear, especially as Christians. We do not want to hear about how suffering will make us a stronger person.

If we had our way then there would be no suffering what so ever. God NEVER promised us that we would not suffer in fact he promises quite the opposite.

Some of the best Biblical figures have suffered (click here to read my blog on that). What God does say is that after you have suffered not only will He restore you but you will come out better for your suffering.

This is why as backward as it sounds we must learn to Glory in our suffering which I have a video on and you can watch below.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.  Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2:4

No one wants to rejoice in their trails, but in a way you should because when you face trails that is how you know that God is going to make you stronger.

I did not want to rejoice when I lost my job a few years back (see my blog here), I did not want to rejoice when I was raising my son all alone (see my blog here), and I did not want to rejoice when I was broke.

BUT it made me a stronger person AND because I got through it my life is 10 times better, I am 10 times stronger, and I trust God 10 times more had I not gone through it. (Also see my blog on how hard times makes you stronger).

And also listen to me talk about the struggles that I faced as a single mom when I was broke, hungry, and struggling. Literally and how God brought me out and now I am stronger because of it.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #5

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Going off the above verse I know how you may be wondering how all the above things worked for my greater good. But they did. It did not seem like that at the time, especially after years and years and years of being in the same situation.

But it pushed me, it made me stronger, and it allowed me to work harder for the things I really wanted.  Those hard times were like a fire under my behind to make want more from life, I am not sure I would have gotten to that point if I had not gone through them.

So trust that ALL things (both good and bad) are working together in your life for the greater good. And your only job is to love God and trust that He knows what He is doing.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #6

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 1 Peter 5:8-9

I highly encourage you to read my blog resist the devil and he will flee (click here) so you can understand how the devil works.  The devil does want to jack up your life and do things to you. The devil wants to rob you of your destiny and make you give up. BUT the devil also has no authority.

I also have a video on understanding how the devil operates that you can watch below and don’t forget to subscribe to my channel.

If you read the book of Job then you know that the devil had to come to God and ask for permission to punish Job (read the book of Job here). It is not that God wanted Job to suffer, but to test Job, and to then reward Job if he passed the test.

The devil told God, that it was easy for Job to love God when everything is going good, but when they are going bad and the devil is making your life a living hell will you still love Him?

Once Job came out of his trail God rewarded him because Job still did love God. Job did not love God because of material things that God could give him, he loved God because God was God.

Know that no matter what the devil is doing to you, he had to get permission from God to do it. This is the prime time for you to praise God through your trails and learn how to rebuke the devil.

You do not have to be the devil’s doormat, you can choose to stomp him under your feet and have dominion over him.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #7

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

I know that when you are going through adversity all you feel is anxiety and worry. But those are the time when you have to pray.

I have gone through hard times and wanted to do something anything to fix it and make it better. When I realized that I couldn’t that is when I went to God and God fixed it.

God is just waiting for you to come to Him so He can fix your problem.  Especially in those situations when there is nothing you can do in your own will to fix your own situation. That is the perfect time to pray to God and to petition God and watch Him work on your behalf.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #8

I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell.

Yes, I tell you, fear him. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.  Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12 4-7

Adversity can often be attributed to what someone else is doing to us. But who cares what someone else is doing to you. They are not God, like the devil they have to authority over you. (Also click here for my blog on a prayer that can help you with this).

God knows how many hairs are on your head that how much he knows about you and is concerned about you. Not only is He the one that is going to take care of you but He is also going to take care of the people coming after you.

In the end, when you die the one you are going to answer to is God. Not man, not these people who keep getting all your nerves, not the person that made your life a living hell, and not the person that stole everything from you.

They are just man and they do not define your reality or the reality that you will have when you die. So who cares what they think and who cares what they do (see my blog here).

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #9

For thus says the LORD of hosts, “After glory He has sent me against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye. Zechariah 2:8

If other people are coming against you then they better be careful because they are touching the apple of God’s eye. That is why you do not need to worry about other people and what other people are doing to you because God will take care of them.

There is no need to waste your time thinking about it or addressing it, let God handle it and you just keep your eyes on Him.

Bible verses about overcoming adversity #10

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6: 25-27

I know that we need food, we need to eat, and we need to drink; I get that. And there was a time in which I was in financial hardship and I felt like I could not afford anything of these things but guess what? God provided for them. (see my blog here).

What this verse says is that your adversity is a LIFE issue.  There are more things to life than just worldly things and if you are worried about worldly things that you NEED then God will provide for them for you. So why even worrying about them?

The whole idea of worry is pointless. No matter how much you worry about something worrying is NEVER going to change anything. You are just making yourself crazy with worry.

So why even bother allowing something you cannot change effect you? Keep your mind positive and worry-free, and see how things can change for you.

These are the 10 bible verses about overcoming adversity that I enjoy the most and I really hope that you enjoy them as well. I know sometimes when you are going through something you do not want to hear about the Bible or God, especially when it seems like God is not doing anything.

But I have felt the same way and let me tell you that these Bible verses are time tested and they work. Even though it does not seem like it and even though it is taking too long to work they do work.
