Use The Power Of Prayer and Fasting To Get What You Want

Your Ultimate Guide for Understanding The Power of Prayer And Fasting

I am a HUGE proponent of the power of prayer and fasting. The reason being is because I have personally witnessed in my life.  As crazy as it sounds literally I have used the power of prayer and fasting to heal myself from lust (click here to read that post). To get an immediate answer to my prayer. In fact, whenever I am in a bind and I need direct action and/or answer from God then harnessing the power of prayer and fasting has ALWAYS served me well.

Feel free to also read my spiritual fasting post that breaks down everything you need to know about spiritual fasting.  Anyone can fast, but it does not always mean that you are fasting due to a spiritual reason. If you are just fasting but not adding the prayer component then that is just called a diet. And that is NOT the same thing.

Also, check out my comprehensive guide that will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know on how to start your own spiritual fast. Its only 99 cents. Click here to learn more about it.

I highly recommend that you get my above ebook (it is legit only 99 cents) if you are really serious about doing the whole prayer and fasting thing.  But I will give you some tips here that will get you started on your way if you really want to implement the power of prayer and fasting.

First, you have to determine why you are fasting.

The first thing you need to do is determine why you are fasting, knowing why you are fasting can determine how your prayers are guided.  Just choosing to fast with no REAL purpose is a no go if you want to harness the power of prayer and fasting.  Because you are doing the whole fasting part but what would you be praying for.  As I mentioned in one of my spiritual fasting post there the common reasons for fasting.

Some of them include to control your flesh, I already spoke about how I used it to cure me lust (read that blog here in case you missed it).  Fasting to be healed. Another reason why you may fast is to petition God for something. Esther is a great example of that.

There are many reasons why one fast, and all of them are listed in the Bible in case you are confused on where to start.  OR once again you can feel free to get my ebook where I cover in detail why to fast once again click here to get it.

But the best thing is to FIRST and foremost set your intention on why you are fasting.  Set your intention with yourself AND set your intention with God.  Both you and God should know why you are fasting and what you are seeking to acheive at the end of your fast.

But remember God is not a genie

But before you get into thinking that just because you fast that God will give you whatever you want, know that this may not happen.  In the Bible most of the time fasting did bring about change.  In my life, the power of fasting and prayer brought about change.  BUT the change has to be in the will of God.

Case in point: David

When David had a child with Bathesheeba, God decided to take the child in infancy and God told David that he was going to do so.  David fasted, in an attempt to save the child and to get God to change his mind BUT God took the child anyway.  And so David said this.

David pleaded with God for the child. He fasted and spent the nights lying in sackcloth on the ground. 2 Samuel 12:16

On the seventh day the child died. David’s attendants were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they thought, “While the child was still living, he wouldn’t listen to us when we spoke to him. How can we now tell him the child is dead? He may do something desperate.”

David noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realized the child was dead. “Is the child dead?” he asked.

“Yes,” they replied, “he is dead.” Then David got up from the ground. After he had washed, put on lotions and changed his clothes, he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house, and at his request they served him food, and he ate.

His attendants asked him, “Why are you acting this way? While the child was alive, you fasted and wept, but now that the child is dead, you get up and eat!” 2 Samuel 12: 18-21

So yes, understanding that fasting does not always get you the results that you want but we still do it because just as David knew it is the strongest way to gets God’s attention. But know that even when you fast AND even when you pray if God’s answer is no then it is a no.

There is power of prayer and fasting and if God says yes to your prayer then fasting is a way to get His attention and get Him to answer your request faster.  But do not think that you can just go on a fast because you want to get ANY and everything that you simply because you want to fast. Or fast because of something shallow such as wanting to win the mega million in the lottery, and then you are shocked that once your fast is over, you winning the lottery did not happen for you.

Like any prayer, it must be a pure at heart prayer.  Prayer is only effective when it is pure at heart (click here to read my blog on praying prayers that always get answered).  Prayer for someone to die, or someone to get hurt, or for someone to lose their job and then fasting on top of it, is not going to get your petition heard.  I feel like that should go without saying. Because those things are not of God, and I do not care how many fasting and praying you do it is just not going to work out for you. When you pray and even before you fast, knowing what is within the WILL of God will ensure that your fast is successful

The Power of Prayer and Fasting What To Give Up

the power of prayer and fasting

Praying and fasting will only work if you make the fast difficult.  The whole point is to deny your flesh. If you ever look at anyone in the Bible who fasted (David, Esther, or even Jesus himself) they did not just give up a piece of bubble gum, prayed, and expected God to move on their behalf.  It simply does not work like that.  There is no fooling God. You can pretend that you are fasting and that it is oh so hard, but in the end God knows if you are serious or not.

As I spoke about in my Daniel Diet Versus Daniel Fast Post (there are many variations of a fast).  I do not think that you have to give up ALL food all together. Especially if you have a bunch of health issue and fasting may kill you.  If you are a meat lover or a sweet lover, and feel you cannot live without, then often times giving up meat or sweets is enough. If you are addicted to social media (which can happen in this day and age) then giving up social media can be your fast.  But what you give up NEEDS to be hard for you. And you need to give it up for a point and time that is hard for you.  Having a social media addiction and then fasting from social media for a day is probably not going to do it.  REALLY push yourself to be tested.  I mean Jesus fasted for 40 days for goodness sake.  I am not promoted you to do that just showing that as an example how hard that must have been for him to do.  So think along the lines of not making your fast too easy and only you can determine that.

The power of prayer and fasting can only be utilized in the cases that the fast is hard for the person fasting.  That is a sure way for your prayer to be heard. That type of sacrifice is what gets God’s attention.

The Power of Prayering when you are fasting

Prayer is what makes your fast come true.  And this is not some meaningless mumblings to God nor it is a Christmas list of things that you want during your fast.  Even if you do want something from God during your fast you should still be getting closer to God using the Holy spirit to do so.  You can read my Holy Spirit blog post here and my how to become a friend of God post here. And you can feel free to watch my video below on how to hear from God and don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel by clicking here.

You never want to be one of those people who only come to God when they want something.  Can you imagine if you were God and you never hear from someone unless they have their hand out.  Why on Earth would you take them seriously. In the end in order for a prayer to be TRULY effective, you must pray from the heart.  No sitting around, saying what you think sounds great, and what you think God wants to hear from you and then you’re all done.

God created you and so He knows you.  If you think that you parents know you the best think again, if you think that your husband knows you the best think again or if you think that your best friend knows you the best then think again.  They do not know you better than God knows you.  So sitting around saying some superficial prayer that really means nothing to you or nothing to God is a waste of a fast. Saying something that you think God wants to hear to that he will hurry up and grant your request during a fast without really meaning it is a no go.  God and sense fake and phony from a mile away and I do not care how long you fast, adding a fake behind prayer behind your fast is not going to fool God.

During your fasting period you NEED to grow closer to God, you NEED to feel Him in your soul, He should feel like an extension of your own flesh, and you should feel His Holy Spirit flowing through your veins like your own blood.  If you do not know this feeling while you are fasting, then you are not doing it right. If you want to feel the full power of prayer and fasting, fasting mixed with prayer is like this supernatural feeling that comes over your body as you do it.  That is when you can feel the true power of putting two and two together.

The Power of Prayer and Fasting It Your Power And Not For Show

Are you seeking your reward from man or are you seeking your reward from God? When you seek your reward from man when you are fasting then know that your prayer will be made ineffective and the reward and attention that you see will be given to you from man not God.  Take the following Bible verse.

When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  Matthew 6:16-18

Do your fasting in secret.  No need to play the victim, telling your friend to have the EMT on standby in case your fasting gets too overwhelming, or walking around work looking like a hot mess wanting someone to ask you what is wrong with you so that you can hurry up and tell them that you are fasting. So everyone can see how holy you are.  How one you are with God. How much of yourself you must sacrifice.  If that is the type of appreciation that you are looking for, then know that you will get it from MAN but expect to get nothing else from God.

In closing. Yes pray, but prayer is just the bare minimum.  Fasting and praying is a spritual journal and during this process.  Stay in your word, read your Bible ( I recommend the amplified Bible from Joyce Meyer click my affiliate link here to buy), and listen to gospel music.  In everything that you do from the time that you wake up to the time that you go to sleep figure out ways to do God’s will. Be nicer to people, pray for people that need your prayers. Remember that even though you are praying for something during your fast, never forget to be Christ-like. Fasting and praying and then being then acting like Satan’s spawn will get you nowhere with God.
